The Charm of the Central Coast

The central coast of California is filled with beach towns consisting of piers and attractions that lure tourists in. While every town overlooks a similar view of the Pacific Ocean, there is a uniqueness amongst each. Cayucos is a quiet, sleepy town north of Morro Bay. It feels very historic and trapped in time with the abundance of antique shops and remnants of the past. Morro is a popular tourist destination, but still feels it moves at a slower pace. You may enjoy nature, the wildlife and outdoor activities. Avila Beach feels more playful and has a small town feel with its charming row of restaurants and small shops. Shell Beach, often missed, sits between Avila and Pismo. While it lacks easy access to the water, the benches along the cliffs provide a great lookout point. Pismo Beach is busy with cars and tourists enjoying the pier. And it feels chaotic as it is full of amusements and attractions. It is hard to encapsulate an entire beach town into one photo. This series works to highlight what each place feels like in my eyes, the attractions they're known for and the qualities that go overlooked. Even though they are all minutes away and sit along sandy beaches, each town is unique and charming in its own way.
